Lifeguard Certification

The Lifeguard and CPR for Professional Rescuer courses are sponsored by the Red Cross and meet all Anne Arundel County Requirements. Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is good for three years and is transferable between counties and states. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of the course attended and present a copy of their birth certificate at time of registration.

  • Participants must perform all required skills with 100% accuracy
  • Participants must pass a written test with a score of at least 80%.
  • Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of the course attended. Proof of age must be presented at registration.

  • Participants must complete a pre-course screening session which includes the following:
    • swim of 300 yards (continuously, using these strokes: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick, 100 yards breaststroke, 100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing, or breaststroke or a combination of both)
    • Swim 20 yards (front crawl or breast stroke) and then surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick from deep water, return it to the surface, and swim back 20 yards. This is a timed event.

The cost is $225, which includes all course materials. A non-refundable $125 deposit is required at registration with the balance due on the fist day of class.

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Class

Successful completion of this Red Cross course certifies participants to teach Swim lessons.
Class Components:
  • Precourse session (see prerequisites below)-1 hours
  • FIT course (Fundamentals of Instructor Training) - 4 hours
  • Water Safety Instructor Course - 29 hours
All components are required for this course - Total of 34 hours.
Cost:
  • $100 Non-refundable fee for pre-course & FIT
  • $250 for Instructor course, Instructor manual
Course Prerequisites:
  • Be at least 16 years of age before final scheduled session of class
  • Front crawl-25 yards
  • Back crawl-25 yards
  • Breaststroke-25 yards
  • Elementary Backstroke-25 yards
  • Sidestroke-25 yards
  • Butterfly-15 yards
  • Maintain position on back 1 minute in deep water
  • Tread water for 1 minute

Lifeguard Instructor Class

  • Lifeguard Instructor Course - 21 hours

Cost:
  • $75 Non-refundable fee for pre-course
  • $325 for FIT, Instructor course, Instructor manual, CPR mask
Course Prerequisites:
  • Be at least 17 years of age before final scheduled session of class
  • Pass the recourse written examination with a minimum grade of 80% required
  • Must have lifeguard book and review sheets
  • Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststroke, 100 yards either front crawl of breaststroke or a mixture of both strokes
  • Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point
  • Swimming rescue skills
  • Three water skill scenarios
  • Pass all first aid and CPR skills

Sea Colony offers PADI scuba certification courses from Open Water through Scuba Instructor.
